Motus Commercials Plants Trees for the Jubilee

Motus Commercials is donating trees to schools and colleges to mark the Jubilee, as part of the Queen's 'Green Canopy' initiative.

  • As part of HM the Queen’s ‘Green Canopy’ initiative, which invites people across the UK to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’, Motus Commercials is donating trees to schools and colleges to help them mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee within their local communities.

Reaching out to secondary educational establishments within the vicinity of Motus Commercials dealerships, the UK’s largest commercial vehicle dealership group has pledged to donate a tree to each of its nine Regions. These are located as far north as Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire, down to the southwest at Frome in Somerset.

Sarah Bardens, the company’s People Partnership Manager, explains, “We chose to take part in the ‘Green Canopy’ initiative in this way, because we recognise how very important it is for us to be able to engage with schools and their students, whilst at the same time giving something tangible to the environment and local communities. Alongside supporting this unique environmental initiative, it also allows us to highlight our outstanding work experience and apprenticeship opportunities to up and coming young talent.”

  • First to receive their tree, from local dealership Motus Commercials Macclesfield, was Macclesfield Academy. Lee Grantham, Motus Commercials Regional Head of Service and Elliot Nuttall, who is a DAF HGV Apprentice met the school Head Teacher, Mat Galvin, and some pupils to plant a tree on the school grounds.

At around the same time, at Castle Donington College, Sarah Bardens and Harrison Stubbs (HGV Technician and ex-Apprentice) met Nathan Barratt, Deputy Head Teacher, and Joe Cox, Student Ambassador, to plant a tree donated by nearby Motus Commercials Derby. These trees, all 'Trinity College' Birches, a new variety of white barked Birch with an elegant slender form, should grow to 5m high over the next 10 years.

Motus Commercials plans to plant more trees throughout the year and is keen for schools and colleges local to its dealerships to get in touch if they’re interested in a commemorative tree, or even just finding out more about the great career opportunities available at Motus Commercials.
